Guardvant has a strong year of growth including over 500 Guardvant OpGuard and ProxGuard systems to be installed at Codelco operations.
TUCSON, AZ – February 7, 2013 – Guardvant, Inc., a provider of innovative mining safety technology, capped off a significant year of growth with several orders awarded by Codelco (Corporación Nacional del Cobre de Chile) for the company’s operator fatigue and alertness monitoring systems and proximity awareness systems. Over 500 OpGuard and ProxGuard systems will be in operation once installation is completed at two Codelco mines in Chile. The Codelco orders will add to Guardvant’s global install base in Africa, South America, North America, and Australia.
“The innovative technologies that we develop help to improve safety at mines, but in the long run, also improve productivity. Codelco has shown a commitment to our products, and we couldn’t be more pleased to have them as a customer,” said Sergio Blacutt, Guardvant’s CEO.
Guardvant will also be installing the Guardvant Mobile Server (GMS) as part of the Codelco projects. The GMS allows multiple on-board applications to run on a common hardware platform. Guardvant’s development of GMS has been driven by the mine’s desire to reduce the in-cab clutter of multiple monitors and hardware needed to run various systems. The development and installation of GMS further strengthens Guardvant’s goal of becoming a leading supplier of sophisticated technology solutions for mines.
Operator fatigue and blind spots – close proximity areas of reduced operator visibility – are widely recognized as two of the leading causes of mining accidents involving mining equipment. Mines are actively seeking solutions to help combat both problems. Guardvant’s OpGuard and ProxGuard systems, which are installed on heavy equipment and light vehicle fleets, monitor operator behavior for signs of fatigue and distraction and improve equipment operator’s visibility to see objects in blind spots. Guardvant systems alert the operator and supervisor before an accident occurs. OpGuard and ProxGuard can help reduce accidents, improve productivity and save money on wear and tear of vehicles and equipment.
The OpGuard and ProxGuard systems are designed by Guardvant’s engineers who have decades of experience in developing and deploying technology for fleet management and high-precision guidance systems in mines. This ensures a deep understanding of mining operations, fleet management systems, and a focus on reliable, accurate data to give the mine confidence in the long-term performance of the system.
